|Event Overview / Schedule / Theme|
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their continuing understanding, cooperation, and participation in events and activities sponsored by the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan (SCAJ).
It has been almost 30 years since the arrival of specialty coffee. Consumption of specialty coffee has steadily risen sustained by stable demand not only in advanced consumer nations in Europe and North America but also Asia. As an industry too, the successful business model used by specialty coffee has continued to prosper.
In Japan as well, while import and consumption of commercial coffee have remained almost flat, specialty coffee consumption has steadily increased and the market continues to expand every year.
One reason for this remarkable market growth has been the appreciation shown by consumers for the excellent and diverse quality of specialty coffee. This attractive beverage continues to become an established part of more and more consumer’s lives.
To further expand the specialty coffee market and gain even more customer support, additional innovation is required in distribution and technology to enhance the quality of production, variety and manufacture of specialty coffee.
It is in such a market environment that the SCAJ will hold its largest exposition ever, World Specialty Coffee Conference & Exhibition 2018, in September of this year. This year also marks SCAJ’s 15th anniversary in commemoration of which the exhibition floor space will be 1.6 times last year’s floor area in order to meet the ever-growing needs of exhibitors.
It is our hope that information about diverse and innovative products, technologies, and logistics available through this exhibition will be of use to your specialty coffee businesses and contribute to your success.
As of February 2018
I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the consistent and wonderful support everyone has shown the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan (SCAJ).
Thanks to all of you, the SCAJ is celebrating its 15th anniversary, in commemoration of which we have made a new start as we prepare to hold our 14th exhibition this year.
Last year, a total of 126 specialty coffee companies, organizations and other groups from 25 countries and regions including coffee producing countries exhibited at 246 booths at SCAJ 2017.
In addition, a record-surpassing total of 29,801 people from 28 countries and regions visited the exhibition during the three-day event. This is also a demonstration of the value that people from both Japan and the rest of the world attach to this event, which is the largest dedicated to specialty coffee in Asia.
In celebration of our 15th year, we have significantly increased the venue area for World Specialty Coffee Conference & Exhibition 2018. Tokyo Big Sight’s 4,680 m² West Hall 3 and 6,840 m² West Hall 4 will provide a total floor area of 11,520 m² or approximately 1.6 times that of last year’s conference. World Specialty Coffee Conference & Exhibition 2018 will be the biggest event that SCAJ has ever held.
The enlarged venue will provide room for a variety of new projects as well as competitions, which previously had to be held outside the exhibition hall. These competitions will significantly add to the exhibition’s energy and enthusiasm. In addition, this year, space will be set up for business discussions and negotiations, which had to be conducted outside the venue last year due to floor area constraints. I believe that this new area will help all participants further advance their businesses.
Information about the rapidly-advancing specialty coffee industry will be available at SCAJ 2018 before anywhere else.
We hope that you will be able to personally experience the innovative progress that everything associated with specialty coffee continues to demonstrate and have a chance to see firsthand the excellence of specialty coffee, an enticing beverage that amazes and inspires people around the world as it continues to become an integral part of our modern lifestyle.
